17003.01.15 Cerne Abbas Giant, above Cerne Abbas village, Dorset, England, UK. A 180 foot (55 m) tall figure cut in the chalk. The earliest written record mentioning the giant dates from 1751, hinting at, but not proving that the figure may not be as old as all that and only date from the mid-17 th century. This has resulted in numerous theories about when and why the figure was created.
