 Keywords: On Castle Point, near Craster. Originally commenced by Thomas Earl of Lancaster in 1314. The Lilburn Tower (centre right) was built by Sir John Lilburn, constable of the castle, in about 1325. The castle was strengthened by John of Gaunt between 1380 and 1384.. It was a Lancastrian stronghold during the Wars of the Roses, but by Tudor times had become ruinous.
