12183.01.05 Riverside scene with Transporter Bridge over the River Tees, Middlesbrough, Cleveland, England, UK. The bridge has a main span of 546 ft 9 in between the main towers and 160 ft clearance above high water. The 140 ft long cantilever spans balance the main span and are anchored to the ground by steel cables. The suspended travelling car, tested to a load of 80 tons, crosses the river in 2 minutes. Designed by Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Ltd., the bridge was built by them and Sir W Arrol and Co Ltd and opened in 1911.
