Setting up your Domain Name

Setting up your Domain Name

Using a domain name is the best way to run your website and/or sales area for clarity and search engine optimisation. If you do not already have a domain name, you can purchase one from any domain name registrar (such as Namecheap). Once your domain name is set up, we will generate an SSL certificate and display all website pages, photo galleries, proofing links, sales and checkout pages using your secure encrypted domain name.

Using theimagefile for your web site (including any proofing and sales pages)

If you are running your complete website on theimagefile, your domain name will persist through all web pages, sales areas, links to collections and proofing areas.

Domain name DNS details:

Your nameservers should be the nameservers provided by your domain name registrar.

Apex record @ 52.30.30.98
WWW using a CNAME record to webhost.theimagefile.com

If your website is built on theimagefile, both the above records are required.

Using theimagefile just for your sales area

If you have an external website, that website will use your domain name(e.g. www.yourdomain.com, for example) - and you can use a subdomain for your online proofing and sales through theimagefile, for example, shop.yourdomain.com, galleries.yourdomain.com or clients.yourdomain.com. To set this up, you should set up your sub-domain at your domain registrar (where you purchased your domain) using the (shop.yourdomain.com) example above the DNS.

Your nameservers should be the nameservers provided by your domain name registrar.

shop.yourdomain.com CNAME record to webhost.theimagefile.com

Only the CNAME record is used if pointing a subdomain name to theimagefile.

Log into your domain name registrar and locate the DNS Manager. Edit the DNS zone records as above. Then log into theimagefile and go to Control Panel > My Web Site > Naming and Access and add the domain name or sub-domain in the Custom domain field.

Setting Up Secondary or Parked Domains

You might want to add a secondary domain name if you want more than one domain to point to your website, for example, if you own both .com and .co.uk versions of your domain name.

Go to My Websites > Main > Domain Name and Settings.

Click on park more domains.

Add your secondary domain/s into the box.

Click Save All.

DNS can take up to 48 hours to fully resolve.
