How to edit your Social Sharing Information

On average the like and share buttons are viewed across almost 10 million websites daily. More shares occur if there is no like button. Including a share button in email newsletters leads to more click throughs.

Basically, it is a great way of getting your customers and website visitors to market you and your services to all their friends and colleagues for free, and instantly for just a few minutes work. Remember this will work in different ways for all sharing on social media, not just Facebook.

How to set it up

  1. Within your web page, click the link to edit your Meta tags for search engine optimisation:

  2. If needed, edit the description text to get maximum impact from your message. This will also assist with your search engine optimisation.
  3. Optionally add an image to also be displayed with the share.
  4. View the best practice sizes in the roll over help icon

Don't have a share button on your website yet?

It is really easy to add one. Just go to My Websites > Customise Design > Site Footer. CLick the "Image" button, then "Choose from Library". Scroll to the section titled: Click on any placeholder for a Your-Domain-Only widget". Here click the "AddThis" Share icon. OK and Save your changes.

Alert - optional related geeky stuff

If you have old data cached in your share information you can force Facebook to reindex your social sharing information or "fetching a new scrape" as Facebook calls it from here: We found you need to run the process a few times for the update to be made.

Apparently the amount of shares shown on the share button does not show the true sharing picture, as it does not include shares of shares, or copy and paste of URL. If you really want a more detailed picture, edit the below code to your own URL and paste it into your browser address bar:,like_count,comment_count,share_count,click_count%20from%20link_stat%20where%20url=%27
