See Through A Glass Darkly
This is Fiona Campbell Hicks' portfolio of creative work. The works stem from Fiona's belief that God is so beautiful. The works explore found beauty, inner vision and the ordinary. They delight in sacramental transformation and the realm where life meets art.

The 'Our Lady of the Oak' series is a project that stems from Fiona's research into the Virgin Mary depicted in Medieval English stained glass. In English Medieval art the Virgin was usually depicted in a garden, echoing the Medieval belief that the Virgin Mary was an enclosed garden dedicated to God - a 'hortus conclusus'. Since 2018, Fiona has been creating a Mary garden in pots and photographing it. Many plants dedicated to the Virgin Mary were planted, others self seeded including an oak sapling. She then became aware that Islington was the site of a lost holy site with a shrine to the Virgin Mary, somewhere to the west of St Mary's Church on Upper Street, called 'Our Lady of the Oak.' The oak is thought to symbolise Everlasting Love, and there have been 16 apparitions of the Virgin Mary across Europe, with the first recorded being in 1AD. The oak also features in Jewish imagery, with the Oak of Mamre being traditionally held to be the place where Abraham met with the Three Angels, believed in Christianity to represent the Holy Spirit. These three angels then told him that his ageing wife was going to have a son.

5 copies of each print have been released out of a total of 25, plus 2 artists' proofs, with an initial starting price of £75 for a mounted, unframed print. The images can also be UV printed on glass or framed with a traditional oak or black frame.

For purchases over £975, a home interior design art consultation with Fiona and expert installation is included in the price (callout charge applicable outside the M25).
